Membership Options to your Fremont VFW Post 2947
Veteran and Auxillary are the two official membership groups in the VFW. In most cases both Veteran and Auxillary members have access to other posts when traveling. Fremont has a Social membership group as well. Social membership is only valid at Fremont Post 2947, and is not transferable for access to other posts.
Veteran Member Requirements
- Honorable Service – must have served in the Armed Forces of the United States and either received a discharge of Honorable or General (Under Honorable Conditions) or be currently serving.
- Service in a war, campaign, or expedition on foreign soil or in hostile waters*. This can be proven by any of the following:
- An authorized campaign medal (see a full list of qualifying medals and badges)
- Receipt of Hostile Fire Pay or Imminent Danger Pay (verified by a military pay statement)
- Service in Korea for 30 consecutive or 60 non-consecutive days
- This information is usually available through a veteran’s DD-214. If you cannot find the Veteran’s DD-214, please contact your local Veteran Service Organization Representative (VSO).

Auxiliary Member Requirements
If you are not eligible for membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars but you have a parent, grandparent, child, grandchild, sibling, or spouse who would be eligible then you may apply for membership in the VFW Auxiliary.
- Minimum 16 years old
- Related to an eligible Veteran by being one of the following (step and adopted included)
- Husband/Wife
- Widower/Widow
- Father/Mother
- Grandfather/Grandmother
- Son/Daughter
- Grandson/Granddaughter
- Brother/Sister
- Eligibility is usually certified through a veteran’s DD-214. If you cannot find the Veteran’s DD-214, please contact your local Veteran Service Organization Representative (VSO).
